1. What Is Blue Light?

Without getting into complicated physics, there is an inverse relationship between the wavelength of light rays and the amount of energy they contain. Light rays that have relatively long wavelengths contain less energy, and those with short wavelengths have more energy.

Rays on the red end of the visible light spectrum have longer wavelengths and, therefore, less energy. Rays on the blue end of the spectrum have shorter wavelengths and more energy.

  1. The Harm of Blue Light

A. Eye Damage

    The fact that blue light penetrates all the way to the retina (the inner lining of the back of the eye) is important, because laboratory studies have shown that too much exposure to blue light can damage light-sensitive cells in the retina.

    This causes changes that resemble those of macular degeneration, which can lead to permanent vision loss.

    Although more research is needed to determine how much natural and man-made blue light is "too much blue light" for the retina, many eye care providers are concerned that the added blue light exposure from computer screens, smart phones and other digital devices might increase a person's risk of macular degeneration later in life.

    B. Visual Fatigue

      Due to the blue light is shorter than others, the image will locate in the front of Retina, not the right center. In order to see the image clearly, the eye ball will in a nervous situation for a long time, which caused visual fatigue.

      Long time in a visual fatigue will cause worse nearsighted, diplopia, reading problems or focus barrier and so on, which has severely influence on daily life and work.

      C. Sleep Disorder

        The Melatonin can help us fall asleep fast and well, however, the blue light inhibits the Melatonin’s secretion. That’s why we cannot fall a sleep quickly if we played a ipad or smart phone before going to bed.

        1. Not All Blue Light Is Bad

        According the scientific survey, the rays on the blue between 415nm and 455nm will do harm to human health, on the other hand, the rays on the blue between 455nm and 500nm is okay for us. So in daily life, we have to protect ourselves from harmful blue light.

        Above all, we should refuse the rays on the blue between 415nm and 455nm. But how? Here are some suggestions:
